For a cup of coffee in Vienna!

For a cup of coffee in Vienna!

For every guest of Vienna, one of the main points of the "obligatory program" is to try such a popular Viennese coffee!

Coffee is as much an integral part of Vienna as opera, waltz or schnitzel.
Fortunately, there are enough coffee houses here and they know how to make coffee here.
By the way, if you want to order
"Viennese coffee" ,  you may not find it on the menu. The inhabitants of the capital do not have such a drink as “Viennese coffee”. The essence of Austrian coffee is that coffee beans are roasted stronger (compared to Italy) and brewed longer. And also always use milk or cream. Austrians rarely drink black coffee.
The most consumed drink is Melange . This is almost the same as cappuccino, only a little more milk is added. Austrians generally prefer to call coffee in the same manner. Instead of the Italian names “espresso”, “cappuccino”, “latte”, they say “schwarzer” ( Schwarzer ), “melange” ( Melange ), “cafe ferkert” ( Kaffee verkehrt ).

Vienna has its own rating of coffee houses. According to local residents and based on this rating, the coffee house  " Demel" (Demel) is considered the best in Vienna. It was founded in 1786 and its craftsmen prepared sweets for the Habsburgs. It is located next to the winter residence of the Habsburg Hofburg. The interior of the institution is fully consistent with the era of the great Austrian Empire. Dark wood, large mirrors, marble tables…

On the ground floor there is also a shop where you will be happy to pack your favorite sweets.

Going a little deeper inside the building, behind the glass you can see how these same sweets are prepared by skillful craftsmen of the institution.

The coffee shop is quite popular and on weekends you may have to queue to wait for a free table (the author of this article had to wait 25 minutes).
If you wish, you can not only try delicious coffee there, but also have a hearty meal.

A cup of Melange and apple strudel will cost 9-10 Euros.
If you do not drink coffee and are not a sweet tooth, but are interested in history, you can just stop by and see the interior of the Demel coffee shop.

Another popular establishment in Vienna is the Mozart coffee house. We can say that it is located in the epicenter of the cultural life of the Austrian capital. On one side is the Vienna Opera, on the other - the museum and the largest city residence of the Habsburgs - Albertina.

The interior of this institution is not as rich as in Demel, but everything also speaks of the greatness of the once powerful empire.
A big plus is a fairly large area with tables in front of the establishment, where it is especially pleasant to enjoy a cup of excellent coffee on a warm day.
The prices here are slightly higher than in the Demel coffee shop.
A cup of melange and a Sacher cake will cost you 11.80 Euros.

In Vienna, you can choose one institution you like, or you can discover more and more new places every time!
But while staying in the Austrian capital, do not deny yourself this little joy - enjoy a cup of delicious coffee with dessert! :)
