How to see the Statue of Liberty for free

Photo of the Statue of Liberty in New York picture

New York provides its guests with such a choice of entertainment, events, events and places to visit that sometimes you have to make difficult choices - there may not be enough time or energy for everything. And what a sin to hide, money is also needed. Especially if the family is traveling. Sometimes you can pay $ 100-200 just for the entrance (for example, for a family of 4 people).
But knowing little secrets, you can avoid some expenses.

For example, you can see the Statue of Liberty for free. Yes, absolutely free!
If you don’t have a fixed idea to climb the Statue of Liberty by all means (ferry + lift $ 21), but you just want to look at it, then this is your option.

In the very south of Manhattan there is the South Ferry port, from where ferries leave for another area of New York - Staten Island. Getting to the port is very easy - this is the end station of the red metro line 1 - South Ferry Station. By the way, there is also an excellent Battery Park, which in itself is also worth attention.

After leaving the subway, you go to the terminal of the port of Staten Island Ferry - Whitehall Terminal. It's impossible to get lost. Everything is very simple and clear. At the terminal, wait for the free Staten Island Ferry and follow the others to board.

And here is 30 minutes of relaxation and enjoying the views of Manhattan.

View of Manhattan from the ferry New York

Let's clarify right away that the ferry does not approach the island itself, on which the Statue of Liberty is located and, accordingly, there are no stops. It runs strictly between Manhattan and Staten Island.

The minimum distance that the ferry approaches the Statue of Liberty is approximately 500 meters. If you want to take a photo, it's best to do it on the way to Staten Island. Then the ferry passes closer to Liberty Island - the island on which this very Statue of Liberty is located.

After the ferry arrives at the port of Staten Island, you just need to get out of it (everyone gets off) and transfer to the one that goes towards Manhattan.
For such a walk, you need to allocate about 1 hour of time (30 minutes in one direction and the other).

Since the ferry is designed to take Staten Islanders to Manhattan and back (and most of them get to work and back home this way), the largest passenger traffic is on weekdays in the morning and evening.

Therefore, if possible, it is better to make this trip on the weekend. And perfect for weekend mornings.
In the rays of the rising sun, New York is beautiful! :-)

If you really want to know what is on Liberty Island and what is happening there, you can do it completely free of charge through online
webcams  located next to the Statue of Liberty or directly on it (time difference: GMT -5 ).

Unforgettable impressions!

And have a good rest!
